South West Monsoon winds is also referred to as ‘Purvaiya’ or easterly in the Bhojpur region due to its unique local characteristics and influence on the region’s climate and culture.

South West Monsoon winds beyond south Kerala progress in the form of two branches viz. the Arabian Sea branch and the Bay of Bengal branch. On reaching the foothills of the Himalayas the Bay of Bengal branch is deflected westward by the Himalayan barrier and it advances up the Gangetic plain.

The Bhojpur region is located in eastern India and northern Bihar. The South-West monsoon is called ‘Purvaiya’ (Easterly) in the Bhojpur region because of the direction from which winds enter in the region.
